What
is a treatment like?
Loose comfortable clothing and
socks are worn (preferably cotton) and treatment is given whilst lying on
the floor on a Japanese Cotton mat or futon, on your back front or side.
The practitioner recommends
the positions suitable for the most effective treatment but your comfort
is of the utmost importance.
Shiatsu can even be given in a
sitting position on a specially designed chair or a traditional massage
table.
The practitioners uses thumbs,
fingers, palms, elbows. knees and feet, holding and leaning weight into
different parts of the body with the aim of improving energy flow,
circulation, flexibility and posture.
Treatments last for about 1
hour, the first session being a little longer to allow the practitioner to
take a fully case history, this gaining a complete health picture.
It is best to avoid heavy
meals for at least 2 hours before the treatment.
After the treatment
You will probably feel invigorated
yet relaxed and vitality may be improved. It is a good idea to rest as much
as possible on the day of the treatments to allow the body to
settle.
